About
Maddy Selby - Maine Licensed Esthetician & Certified Acne Specialist
"I take a holistic approach to skin care. I educate my clients about their skin, create personalized skincare routines with high-quality products, and provide guidance on lifestyle choices to enhance their overall well- being. Skin is an amazing communicator about our health. When we listen, we can start to make the changes needed to look and feel better.
I decided to become an esthetician because of my own journey with acne. I started getting acne when I was 12 years old. As I grew older into my teens, it developed into severe, cystic acne and only became more stubborn as I entered my 20s. I did everything "right" - a solid skincare routine, drinking lots of water, clean diet, daily exercise, supplements... but my skin was still at its "worst." Dermatologists gave me harsh topicals that stripped my skin barrier, antibiotics that weakened my gut health, and eventually prescribed me accuntane. After learning more about accutane and how it affects the body, I turned to other treatments like acupuncture and Chinese medicine. I was desperate for a more natural solution without the side effects. These treatments helped to a certain degree, but my skin never cleared fully, and it always got worse again when I stopped treatment. I hadn't found the right combination of things to heal just yet. Eventually I saw an acne specialist. I finally felt seen, cared for, and empowered by her personal experience and knowledge. I learned about how acne forms, what pore clogging ingredients are, became aware of foods that trigger breakouts, and so much more...
Before entering the world of esthetics, I earned my bachelor's degree in Sport and Exercise Science, preparing me to teach health and physical education in public schools for several years. I then changed my path and decided to pursue my passion for helping others with their skin, bringing the organizational, motivational, and adaptive skills I honed as an educator to provide personalized care to my clients. I graduated from Spa Tech Institute in April of 2024, and since have continued my education in multiple acne specialist certification programs, and have started forming meaningful connections with my clients.
I understand the pain, frustration, and isolation that comes with acne - an inflammatory skin condition that is front and center for others to see. People don't have to continue to suffer from their skin conditions. It has become incredibly meaningful and rewarding for me to share my experience, knowledge and compassion with others, and help my clients get glowing results that last."
